Driver sentenced to 43 years in fatal Ohio crash
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - A judge has sentenced a man to 43 years in prison for a wrong-way crash in Toledo that killed a mother and four children from Maryland.
In court today, Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Linda Jennings called Michael Gagnon (GAG'-nuhn) a dangerous person who has a drinking problem and doesn't know it.
Police say the Michigan man was driving drunk and in the wrong direction on a Toledo interstate December 30th when his pickup truck hit a minivan filled with eight people coming home from a Christmas trip.
Gagnon was coming from a New Year's party.
He read a statement in court today, saying in his mind and spirit he'll serve a life sentence for the pain he caused.
