DA to seek death penalty in trooper case

The district attorney's office representing Haywood County has signaled in a court filing today that it intends to seek the death penalty in the slaying of a state trooper.
District Attorney Michael Bonfoey asked in the court filing for pretrial conference to discuss seeking the death penalty.
Edwardo Wong II, 27, is charged in the June 17 shooting death of trooper David Shawn Blanton Jr. during an Interstate 40 traffic stop near Canton.
Haywood County sheriff’s deputies captured Wong within minutes of the shooting. He is being held in Haywood County without bond.
