Dozen Death Penalty Opponents Plan 300-Mile Walk

By The Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C. -- More than a dozen death penalty opponents plan to walk 300 miles in the next two weeks from Raleigh to Washington, D.C., to call for an end to capital punishment.

The "Pilgrimage of Remembrance: Making Strides Toward Abolition and Reconciliation" walk begins at 1 p.m. Sunday at Central Prison and is scheduled to end June 29 at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Organizers plan stops every day in North Carolina and Virginia for discussions at churches and community centers.

Participants say they also plan to remember murder victims and people wrongly accused of killing someone else as they walk.

Updates on the walk can be found at http://abolition-reconciliation.blogspot.com/
